Global climate agreement remains our goal

Following the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Federal Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen made the following statement: "We did not achieve what we hoped for. But we did achieve everything we could – the alternative to this would have been nothing at all. After all, in the Copenhagen Accord China and the US have now recognised the two degree target, indicated their willingness to make their measures verifiable and pledged start-up financing for climate protection in developing countries. We now have to build on this. Germany stands by its climate protection targets and at the next ministerial conference in June in Bonn will actively support the further advancement of the process. The EU environment ministers will be meeting on Tuesday to discuss this issue. Despite the disappointments of Copenhagen we must not give up our goal of a comprehensive, global climate agreement.
