The Alpine Convention’s legal framework includes a Soil Conservation Protocol. At the XV Alpine Conference in April 2019, the Parties to the Alpine Convention decided to set up a new working group on soil protection. The Federal Environment Ministry chaired the working group during the first period of its mandate, running until the XVI Alpine Conference in December 2020. The chair established the working group and implemented important parts of its ambitious mandate, in areas including exchange and networking, awareness raising and data harmonisation. Further details can be found in the activity report and the two additional reports. During the current mandate period 2021-2022, Germany continues to take part in the working group, which is now chaired by Austria.
