The sustainable production and use of biomass can contribute to the necessary transformation of our economic system and make a long-term contribution towards achieving climate and biodiversity goals as well as the energy transition. Biomass is already used for materials and energy applications across different sectors, but there are no superordinate governance mechanisms steering this finite resource.
