Using the BMUV website

Sometimes it can take a while to understand how a website is put together. Finding specific information is usually one of the main issues. This page explains the structure of our website.

The homepage: a quick overview

Homepage

Current environmental policy topics at a glance: important new information from the ministry can be found on the homepage.

Latest news at the top

At the top of the homepage, there is a breaking news area with articles on current events and topics. The most important news items are highlighted visually with large images.

Information for the public in the middle

The Federal Environment Ministry provides a great deal of information for the public. This can be found in the middle of the homepage. In addition to information about selected activities in Germany and abroad, you can also find out about the ministry’s key topics. Concrete tips for consumers and information about current debates round out this part of the site.

Topic portals at the bottom

The lower part of the page features a selection of links to additional topic portals provided or supported by the ministry. One click on a colourful banner takes you, for example, to the website of the International Climate Initiative.

Navigation

You can access all of the other content on the website using the main navigation bar, with its drop-down menus "ministry", "topics", "service" and "press" and the search bar. In the upper right above the main navigation bar, you can access the German-language part of the site and our social media sites on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram and our RSS feed.

If you want to write to us, you can click on "contact" at the bottom of the homepage to use the contact form. You will also find links to our privacy policy and legal notice of publication data.

Navigation: tips for finding your way

The search function: find what you're looking for

We recommend using the site search engine to quickly find specific articles and documents. A search engine bar is at the top right of the header of every page. Type in one or more keywords that are related to or, ideally, appear in the content you are looking for. You can then browse the results to find your article. The more general the search keyword you use, the more results. Take a look at our tips on the search function for information about refining your search.

Information for everyone: how the BMUV develops content

It is important to the Environment Ministry that this website is equally accessible to all users and addresses a broad range of needs. The entire website is accessible to everyone. This allows people with various requirements and using different technologies to access all of the site’s information without restrictions.

Multimedia content such as videos of speeches and events have an accessible play function that allows users to display subtitles and, if required, include an audio description. Videos can be viewed directly on the website. No extra programmes are necessary to play the videos.

In addition, selected information is also provided in German sign language and in plain language. We are expanding these services continually.

Generally, the BMUV provides accessible PDFs for download
