Culinary heritage and sustainability in the Baltic Sea regions

05 Oct
Venue Berlin
Time 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

The general living conditions and the way in which food is produced, distributed, marketed and consumed have significantly changed – with considerable environmental impacts. How can we make food production and meal preparation more sustainable in the Baltic Sea regions, taking into account the culinary heritage?

BMUV and the Expert Group on Sustainable Development (EGSD) of the Council of the Baltic Sea States have the pleasure to invite you to a in-person conference on 5 October 2022 in Berlin.

The food habits of regions are often an essential part of the cultural identity of the people living there. Many elements of the culinary heritage have characteristics that are seen as part of sustainable nutrition: adapted to local conditions, tied to seasonal availability, and in a cycle-oriented, balanced, and demand-driven interplay of use and preservation of diversity. However, the general living conditions and the way in which food is produced, distributed, marketed and consumed have significantly changed – with considerable environmental impacts. How can we make food production and meal preparation more sustainable in the Baltic Sea Regions?
