Doing all we can to limit global warming to 1.5°C
In recent years, climate change mitigation efforts around the world have been stepped up. The world is not yet on the target trajectory. The 26th UN Climate Change Conference needed to send a signal that it can keep the 1.5-degree limit on warming and the other climate targets embedded in the Paris Agreement within reach.
At the UN Climate Change Conference from 31 October to 13 November 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland, 197 countries discussed the current status of the Paris Agreement and negotiated issues related to it. It was the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), hosted by the United Kingdom.

Key issues
Swift progress on reducing greenhouse gas emissions is necessary to limit a further increase in global temperatures by 2030. The parties also want to move forward on climate change adaptation and international climate finance. In particular, the countries most affected by climate change need support.
Additional major issues for discussion at COP26 are related to concluding negotiations on the Paris rulebook. Specifically, the focus is on the provisions for internationally transferred mitigation outcomes (Article 6), a common timeline for nationally determined contributions and the transparency framework.
